I am becoming more and more discouraged about this...the uS doesnt listen to the UN. I wish I knew what to say or do. I am so sorry about your friends..

I keep coming back to see what others are saying about this..I dont know what to say, John...I am just very , very sorry...

It's not the kind of posting that encourages comments, I think—what can we say? Thanks for your empathy.

One bit of good news: the man who said that to me was Amjad Shawa, the director of PNGO (the Palestinian NGO network). And to my great relief, I found out that he's still alive—see the sidebar "Gazans Hunker Down and Pray for the Best". Or at least, he was as of four days ago.

As dark as that quote sounds (and is), Amjad is a very cool and funny guy, with a mischievous smile that he flashes easily and often. And he looked just like Gene Simmons of KISS. It was eerie, really.

Honestly, I don't know if I've smiled or laughed more than when I was in Gaza. There's plenty of happiness there amid the horrors.

So great to hear he is probably alive! I just am beginning to feel so helples about this..I went to a protest, and, there were as many Zionist supporters as there were Gaza supporters...I have friends who went there , one of whom knew Rachel Corrie pretty well...

I hope it ends up good...I would pray if I did that sort of thing..
