If you hadn't heard that yet, it's because the US media is practically ignoring the fact that the 2007 peace prize was awarded jointly to the IPCC and Al Gore. I'm happy to see that the Nobel Foundation included the IPCC, since it means that this year's award won't be a complete debacle a la 1973. If that seems harsh, please see what I've written (and what George Monbiot has said) regarding Gore's shameful record on global warming back when he was actually in a position of power and could have done something concrete about it.
UPDATE: In an interview in June 2006 with Charlie Rose, Gore himself said that what the Bush administration is doing about global warming is "worse than nothing" because "they are actively throwing monkey wrenches in every international negotiation" (at about 19:30 in the video). So he apparently accepts the same logic that George Monbiot and I are using in calling out his sorry record with the Clinton administration.
