Wikipedia: the drama continues

I was hedging my bets when I said "it could be a few days or a few weeks or a few months"–and way too much, as it turns out.  It actually took just 21 hours for the Israel cultists to discover that the Charley Reese Wikipedia page no longer contained their libelous smears and was far too focused on, well, you know, Charley Reese, and to rectify this completely unacceptable state of affairs by adding the attacks back in again.

On the one hand I’m not surprised because I know from mind-numbing experience just how Wikipedia works, but on the other hand holy Christ I can’t believe they’re checking the page so often that they already noticed. Consider that the last edit before mine had happened 19 days earlier.  Of course it’s possible that it was just a coincidence, but it feels more to me like this is somebody’s (or somebodys’) ongoing pet project.

The good news is that another editor  ("Iames") had already undone some of the damage.  I took care of one more salvo that happened after those repairs.  Like I said, you can follow the whole sordid affair on the entry’s talk page if you’re feeling masochistic.  I’m currently listed as 71.139.15.173 and the vandal is currently coming from 71.207.210.62, and you can click on the "last" link for an entry to see the edits that person made.

I don’t know how long I’ll stick it out; this is mostly an experiment for me, and the amusement value will no doubt quickly dwindle.  So far, though, everything in Wikipedialand is–sadly–exactly as I remember it.
